Privacy Policy

This policy covers expatfamilyliving.com. It is written to be read, not to be survived. If something here is unclear, ask us and we will fix the wording.

What we collect

We do not ask you to create an account, and there is nothing on this site you have to log in to read. There are exactly three ways you can give us information, and all three are things you actively choose to do:

• The newsletter form. We store the email address you submit so we can send you the updates you asked for.
• The contact form. We store your name, if you give one, your email address and your message, so we can reply.
• Saving a cost estimate. If you ask us to email you an estimate from the cost estimator, we store the email address and the inputs you chose, such as the destination and the number of children, so the saved estimate makes sense when you open it.

All three forms are handled by Netlify Forms. Submissions are stored in our Netlify account. Netlify processes them on our behalf as our hosting provider, and its own privacy terms apply to that processing.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read and which destinations they compare. It is configured with IP anonymisation on. We use Google Consent Mode with everything denied by default for visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, which means no analytics cookie is set for those visitors unless and until consent is given. Outside those regions, analytics storage is on by default and advertising storage is still denied.

We do not sell analytics data, we do not upload email addresses to Google, and we do not build profiles of individual readers. What we look at is aggregate: which pages get read, which destinations get compared, which figures people click through to check.

Advertising cookies

This site carries advertising from Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this site or other sites.

• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
• You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
• Readers in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are shown a consent message before personalised advertising cookies are set, and can change that choice at any time from the same message.

We do not place advertising on the cost estimator, on this policy, or on any of the pages explaining how we work. That is a deliberate rule, not an oversight.

Links to service providers

Some links to service providers, such as moving companies, insurers, housing platforms, tax preparers and money transfer services, pay us if you request a quote or open an account. Those links are marked where they appear, and the page that carries one says so in the same block as the link. Following one of those links takes you to that company's own site, where its privacy policy applies, and it may set its own cookies to record that you arrived from here. We never pass your name, email address or estimate to a partner unless you submit a form asking us to. How we are paid explains the arrangement in full.

What we do not do

• We do not sell or rent your email address or any other personal information.
• We do not run trackers whose only purpose is to follow you across other websites.
• We do not use dark patterns to make unsubscribing hard. One click, from any email.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any email we send. You can ask us to delete your email address, a saved estimate, or a contact message at any time by writing to us through the contact form, and we will do it and confirm. If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction and objection under the GDPR, and the same request route serves all of them.

Your browser can block cookies entirely. Nothing on this site stops working if you do. The estimator runs in your browser and works with cookies disabled.

Children

This site is written for parents. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or who processes it, we will change this page and update the date at the top. Material changes will also be described in the newsletter.
